The World’s Most Comprehensive Research on Faith Based Discussions, and a Playbook For Mending Issues In This Space.

Challenge

This lack of coverage on faith-related topics can lead to a significant gap in understanding and representation in the media landscape. As faith plays a crucial role in many individuals' lives and societal dynamics, the absence of nuanced reporting can contribute to misunderstandings and stereotypes. Moreover, it may prevent important discussions and insights from reaching broader audiences, limiting the richness and diversity of perspectives available in public discourse.

Our Faith and Media Global Index study serves as a comprehensive assessment of how religion is depicted in media outlets worldwide. This study not only scrutinizes the portrayal of faith but also delves into public perception, shedding light on how various communities interpret and respond to religious content in the media. By identifying coverage gaps and discrepancies, the study aims to provide valuable insights that can inform more balanced and nuanced reporting on matters of faith.

As part of our initiative, we are committed to supporting Deseret through a multi-channel release of our findings. This collaboration involves disseminating the study results through various media platforms, ensuring broad accessibility and visibility. Additionally, strategic partnerships will be forged to amplify the impact of our research, fostering dialogue and engagement among media professionals, religious leaders, and the general public. Through these concerted efforts, we aim to foster a more informed and inclusive discourse surrounding religion in the media landscape.

Ultimately, our goal is to contribute to a more robust understanding of faith's role in society and its portrayal in the media. By addressing coverage gaps and fostering collaboration between media outlets and religious organizations, we aspire to promote greater accuracy, sensitivity, and depth in media representations of faith, thereby enriching public discourse and promoting mutual understanding across diverse communities.

Approach

We advocate for evidence-driven approaches to discern discrepancies between faith-based reporting and the perceptions and expectations of religious communities. By employing rigorous research methods, we aim to uncover areas where media coverage diverges from the perspectives and reactions of the faithful. Through systematic analysis and empirical data, we seek to identify instances where reporting may misrepresent or misunderstand religious beliefs, practices, and values.
Our efforts prioritize bridging the gap between media representations and the lived experiences of religious individuals and communities. Through this evidence-driven approach, we strive to foster greater accuracy, authenticity, and sensitivity in how faith-related topics are portrayed in the media, ultimately promoting more meaningful and respectful dialogue across diverse religious perspectives.

We harness insights and test hypotheses through action-driven programs designed to directly tackle the issues we've identified. By leveraging our research findings, we develop initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges observed in the portrayal of faith in media. These programs are driven by a commitment to action, employing strategic interventions to bridge the gap between media representations and the expectations of religious communities. Through targeted efforts, we aim to enact meaningful change, fostering greater understanding, accuracy, and inclusivity in how faith-based topics are portrayed and discussed in various media platforms.
