American Free Enterprise Chamber of Commerce Releases Its First 2024 Presidential Race National and Iowa Surveys of Voters, Conducted by HarrisX

Survey finds Ryan Binkley has support of 1% of Republican voters nationally and in Iowa in the 2024 presidential race, meeting the threshold for the primary debate stage.

President Biden is tied with former President Trump in a head-to-head match-up for the 2024 presidential election (45% Biden vs 44% Trump), while Trump is +6pts ahead in Iowa (47% Trump vs 40% Biden). Biden is +6pts ahead in New Hampshire (47% Biden vs 42% Trump).

U.S. voters are looking for new candidates this election: 64% of voters say President Biden should not run for a second term in 2024, and 56% of voters surveyed nationally say the same about Donald Trump.

Policies that promote free enterprise and competitive markets are overwhelmingly popular with U.S. and Iowa voters.

  

Des Moines, Iowa and Washington, D.C. (August 21, 2023) – Today, the American Free Enterprise Chamber of Commerce (AmFree Chamber) released the findings of its first national and Iowan survey of American voters for the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election cycle. The national survey was conducted from Thursday, August 17, 2023, through Monday, August 21, 2023, by HarrisX, a leading national polling and market research firm.  The survey was conducted among 2,327 nationwide registered voters, and is comprised of 1,057 Republican primary voters, 970 Democratic primary voters.

 

***UPDATE (August 28, 2023): Results for Iowa have been updated to reflect expanded sample from 1,952 to 2,323 registered voters in Iowa.***

The Iowan survey was conducted from Thursday, August 17, 2023, through Wednesday, August 23, 2023, by HarrisX.  The survey was conducted among 2,327 registered voters in Iowa, and is comprised of 1,120 Republican primary voters, 975 Democratic primary voters.

The New Hampshire survey was conducted from Thursday, August 17, 2023, through Monday, August 28, 2023, by HarrisX.  The survey was conducted among 2,373 registered voters in Iowa, and is comprised of 1,259 Republican primary voters, 980 Democratic primary voters.

Findings include:

  • President Biden’s approval rating is 44% among U.S. registered voters, 11% among GOP Primary voters, and 80% among Democratic Primary voters.
  • Most U.S. voters believe the country is generally on the wrong track (58%), while only 30% say it is on the right track. New Hampshirite (66%) and Iowan voters are even more likely to feel the country is on the wrong track (68%).
    • GOP Primary voters are especially dissatisfied with the current direction of the country, with 83% reporting it is on the wrong track while 10% believe it is on the right track.
    • Most Democratic Primary voters believe the country is on the right track (55%), while 33% think it is on the wrong track.
  • Voters are looking for new candidates this election:
    • 64% of U.S. voters say President Biden should not run for a second term in 2024, and 56% of voters surveyed nationally say the same about Trump.
  • Biden is tied with Trump in a head-to-head match-up for the 2024 election (45% Biden vs 44% Trump), while Trump is +6pts ahead in Iowa (47% Trump vs 40% Biden).
    • Biden is +6pts ahead in New Hampshire (47% Biden vs 42% Trump).
  • Economic concerns are top of mind for U.S. registered voters, who report that the most important issue facing the country today is price increases/inflation (13%), followed by fear of recession (11%) and the economy and jobs (10%).
  • Inflation remains the key issue among voters, with around 4 in 5 U.S. (78%), New Hampshirite (78%), and Iowan voters (81%) identifying inflation as a major problem facing the country today.
  • Voters are pessimistic about both the direction of inflation and President Biden’s ability to address it:
    • 2 in 3 U.S. (67%), New Hampshirite (65%), and Iowan (66%) voters believe inflation is continuing to increase.
    • 58% of U.S. voters are doubtful of President Biden’s ability to address the nation’s economic problems, and New Hampshirite (63% say they are not confident) and Iowan voters are even less confident (70% say they are not confident).
  • Policies that promote free enterprise and competitive markets are overwhelmingly popular with voters:
    • 88% of U.S. voters say it is important for the U.S. government to proactively reduce business dependence on China, and 91% Iowan and New Hampshirite voters agree
    • 3 in 4 U.S. voters believe the U.S. should focus on developing domestic sources of energy (76%), and both New Hampshirite (87%) and Iowan voters are especially in support of reducing U.S. foreign energy dependence (88%).
    • 78% of U.S. voters support giving individuals’ the freedom to invest at their own risk, and New Hampshirite and Iowan voters are even more in support of this (85%).
    • Voters want free markets for vehicles, with 68% of U.S., 70% of New Hampshirite, and 75% of Iowan voters opposing bans on the sale of gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles.
